2008 PREMIER’S AWARDS – SHOWCASING EXCELLENCE IN THE PUBLIC SECTOR

WINNERS ANNOUNCED

The Premier's Public Sector Awards formally recognise and reward the achievement of excellence by the South Australian public sector.

The Awards were open to all SA public sector agencies including departments, authorities and state owned corporations.

The Award categories were aligned to the South Australia’s Strategic Plan, recognising achievements in the following categories:

  • Growing Prosperity
  • Improving Wellbeing
  • Attaining Sustainability
  • Fostering Creativity and Innovation
  • Building Communities
  • Expanding Opportunity

Sixty-six initiatives were received from 24 agencies.

A variety of projects were nominated, and were recognised for achieving positive outcomes for the people of South Australia.

Six Awards were presented to recognise, honour and celebrate projects of excellence in the public sector and the delivery of outstanding customer service.

The Honourable Mike Rann MP, Premier of South Australia, presented the second annual Premier’s Awards on Friday, 21 November 2008 at a ceremony at the State Library.

Category: Growing Prosperity

Winner:

SOUTH AUSTRALIA WORKS FOR ABORIGINAL PEOPLE – increasing learning, training and employment outcomes for Aboriginal people and expanding pathways into the mainstream labour market. Department of Further Education, Employment, Science and Technology

 

Category: Improving Wellbeing
Winner: RELATIVE NEEDS INDEX – COMPUTER ASSISTED TRIAGING OF DENTAL EMERGENCIES - a research based computer-assisted tool that allows dental reception staff to accurately and consistently triage for dental emergencies. SA Dental Service, Department of Health

 

Category: Attaining Sustainability
Winner: TRAVELSMART HOUSEHOLDS IN THE WEST – a large-scale sustainable travel behaviour change project in Adelaide’s western suburbs. Department for Transport, Energy and Infrastructure

 

Category: Fostering Creativity and Innovation
Winner: ADELAIDE THINKER’S IN RESIDENCE – bringing internationally renowned experts to South Australia to explore and find original solutions to policy issues and challenges facing our community. Department of the Premier and Cabinet

 

Category: Building Communities
Winner: PLAYFORD NORTH URBAN RENEWAL MASTER PLAN PROCESS – PLAYFORD ALIVE – contributing to the transformation of Adelaide’s outer northern suburbs through the delivery of new and upgraded housing, new shopping and commercial centres, new schools, improved transport, innovative forms of service delivery, and enhanced public recreation facilities and parks.  Land Management Corporation

 

Category: Expanding Opportunity
Winner: COMMON GROUND– a not-for-profit company that provides affordable accommodation, integrated with social support services, to single adults who are either at risk of homelessness or on very low incomes. Department of the Premier and Cabinet
