The Rann Government has undertaken a review of the Public Sector Management Act 1995 and developed a new Public Sector Bill 2008, as a basis for stakeholder consultation.

The Public Sector Bill 2008 provides a new legislative framework for achieving a high performing public sector, with a stronger sense of purpose and values, which can respond more effectively to the needs of South Australians.

The Bill includes:

  • new public sector principles
  • new public sector governance arrangements
  • an enhanced role for chief executives
  • the South Australian Executive Service
  • provisions to facilitate greater mobility of public sector employees across the sector
  • greater emphasis on performance management
  • streamlined rights of review.
