Katherine Wells is Chair of the Premier's Round Table on Sustainability. 

She is one of two Round Table representatives on the Executive Steering Group for the development of South Australia’s Greenhouse Strategy.

Katherine has been an environmental lawyer since 1990, working initially for the corporate sector in Melbourne, through lawyers Freehill, Hollingdale & Page, and then for the environment movement in Sydney, where she was Director of Policy at the NSW Environmental Defender's Office. 

Since 2001 she has been living in Adelaide, where she is a climate change consultant to Finlaysons. 

She is National Vice President of the Australian Conservation Foundation, Australia's peak environment group and has also served on a range of other community and government boards and panels. Currently she is on the Board of Zero Waste SA.

Environmental sustainability has been a key focus for Katherine professionally. Her current interests are climate change, the approaching biodiversity crisis and sustainable consumption.

She has worked in a number of States and at the Commonwealth level, across a broad range of areas, and has written and spoken widely on environmental law and policy.

Yvonne is deputy Chair of the Round Table and has over 25 years experience as a chartered accountant providing financial services and advice to both Government and private sector clients. 

She has expertise in a wide range of services including financial and management reporting, strategic planning, preparation of business plans for debt and capital raisings, sustainable development advising, financial evaluation, taxation advice, corporatisation and outsourcing.

She was a Partner in Deloitte Growth Solutions in Adelaide until May 2004, when she relinquished her partnership to enable her to accept board appointments in both the private and public sectors. She is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

As a Deloitte Growth Solutions Partner, Yvonne focused on assisting high growth companies achieve the full value of their potential.

Yvonne worked closely with the Deloitte Global Sustainability and Climate Change Group and clients, striving to integrate environmental and social concerns into their business strategy, operational practices and reporting. 

Yvonne's Australian team participated in a Deloitte global working group to conduct global sector surveys on sustainability reporting. The industries surveyed to date are the automotive, mining and minerals, pharmaceutical, energy and finance industries. 

Yvonne is also the Presiding Member of the Adelaide and Mount Lofty Ranges Natural Resources Management Board.

Dan Atkins has extensive international and domestic experience in environmental and sustainability strategy, policy, management and communication.

He is the founder and director of Sustainable Business Practices Pty Ltd and currently co-chair of the Reference Group for the Victorian Commissioner of Environmental Sustainability. 

Dan has also commenced a PhD with RMIT School of Education on the topic of corporate environmental leadership.

As former head of Toyota Australia's environment groups, Dan played a key role in developing a company-wide environmental vision, building an employee/ management culture and implementing numerous environmental programs for the corporate and manufacturing parts of the business. 

Toyota was recognised by the United Nations Association of Australia for the best environmental program for a business enterprise.

Dan was previously the founder and leader of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu's Environmental Services Group in Australia, and spent three years managing Deloitte's Global Centre of Excellence for Environmental and Sustainability Services in Copenhagen, Denmark.

As a chartered accountant and having studied commerce and business economics in Australia and the USA, Dan specialised in understanding the financial implications of sustainability aspects and incorporating environmental considerations into business strategy and corporate reporting.

He has also been involved in the World Business Council for Sustainable Development's eco-efficiency pilot project, the European Environmental Reporting Awards and the United Nations Environmental Program for Financial Institutions.

Darren is a Group Director and Managing Director of Lincolne Scott.

Darren is a building services engineer whose career emphasizing low energy design has seen him travel extensively throughout Australia, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, China, Malaysia, Sir Lanka and Hawaii.

He has been at the forefront of sustainable development issues in the built environment through his involvement as chair of the Sustainable Development (SD) Committee for the South Australian Division of the Property Council of Australia and participation in the Capital City Forum.

The unconventional design of Lincolne Scott's multi award winning office is an example of his commitment to leading the way in showing what can be done to lessen the impact on the environment.

Through his Green Star accredited professional status, from the Green Building Council of Australia, and LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environment Design) accreditation, from the US Green Building Council, Darren brings unique qualifications, experience and insight to his work at Lincolne Scott, including South Australia's premium green building City Central Tower 1.

Darren has two children - a daughter aged 13 and son aged 11. He is a keen cyclist, a fan of many sports and enthusiastic traveller.

Martyn Eames is Vice President Corporate and People at Santos, an Australian-based oil and gas exploration and production company.

Martyn joined Santos in 2004 after more than 25 years of experience in the oil and gas industry with BP. Previously he was Vice President Strategy and Business Planning with BP Angola and prior to that worked in a variety of commercial and business leadership roles in Australia, Canada, Norway, the United Kingdom and the USA.

At Santos, Martyn is responsible for the leadership of the corporate groups including Environment Health, Safety and Sustainability; Government, Media and Indigenous Affairs; Human Resources; Corporate Affairs; Shared Business Services: and the Workplace Project which is responsible for the development of Santos’ new Flinders Street head office. 

Martyn’s key objectives are to establish Santos as a leading Australian company in environment, health, safety and sustainability performance; to engage and foster relationships with stakeholders; to develop a contemporary HR framework and lead the transformation of Santos’ culture; and to continuously improve internal service delivery. 

Santos is listed on the Australian SAM Sustainability Index (AusSSI) and the Reputex Social Responsibility Index. The company has been a finalist in the Banksia Environment Awards and the APPEA Safety Award, and has the maximum 5 Star rating for corporate governance in the Horwath Corporate Governance Report. 

Martyn has a BSc (Hons) from Bristol University.

Former Lord Mayor of Adelaide, Alfred Huang is now adjunct professor with the International Graduate School of Management at the Univerity of South Australia (UniSA).

He was presented with an honorary doctorate by the University of South Australia at the international graduation ceremony held on 17 December 2003. 

Professor Huang has a Bachelor of Engineering from RMIT and a Master of Engineering Science form the University of New South Wales, as well as an MBA from Monash University.

He is the first Chinese-born person to be elected mayor of an Australian state capital, and a tireless promoter of South Australian education. 

He currently lectures for the International Graduate School of Business in Adelaide, China, Hong Kong and Singapore as part of the MBA program.

Oleg is Manager South Australia and Principal External Affairs Advisor with Ecos Consulting (Aust) Pty Ltd, a specialist group of advisors to industry and government on environmental, regulatory, sustainability and strategic issues.

He has extensive senior executive experience in the resources sector in the areas of government relations, sustainability, environmental management, cultural heritage and broad aspects of stakeholder communication.

Oleg's skills as a communicator, facilitator and strategist have been recognized by his appointments as:

  • Independent Chair of CSIRO and ABARE's Energy Futures Forum
  • Part-time Commissioner on the (SA) Environment and Resources Development Court 
  • (SA) Native Title Commissioner 
  • Chair of the CSIRO's Environment and Natural Resources Management Advisory Council 
  • The Roundtable's representative on the South Australian Strategic Plan Audit Committee 
  • Independent Category Judge for the Banksia Environmental Foundation's Awards for Environmental Excellence. 

Of Russian parentage and born in Belgium, Oleg was educated in Melbourne, has a basic degree in Sociology and is a graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. 

He has worked in human resources and automotive research (Melbourne), social planning (Melbourne and Adelaide), government policy advice (London) and environmental impact assessment and management for the petroleum industry (Adelaide).

Oleg is married to Sue Stack, who has a doctorate in Industrial Relations and works in academia, ethics and health. Sue and Oleg have a teenage daughter, Lari(ssa) who is a percussionist and a keen surfer with strong Italophile tendencies.

Oleg's passions are people, the ocean, the outback and bush, wine, food, music, Champers, the family's Golden Retriever and "Celeste", an elegant 1947 Mk.IV Jaguar, which smells of leather, felt, polished wood and grease.

Monica Oliphant has a Masters Degree in Physics from London University.
She worked for almost 20 years in the electricity supply industry as an energy research scientist for ETSA,l where she was involved in wind, PV, residential end-use and distribution network projects. 

When ETSA became privatised, she left to become an independent consultant specialising in residential energy efficiency and renewable energy. 

Monica is a Vice President (Public Affairs) of the International Solar Energy Society (ISES) and Adjunct Associate Professor of Research at the Sustainable Energy Centre, University of South Australia. 

In 2002 she was awarded an SA Great Environment Award.

In 2003 Monica was one of a four-member Federal Government panel reviewing Australia's Mandatory Renewable Energy Target. 

She has undertaken research and analysis for, amongst others, ESCOSA, Local Government, SAHT and Grote Eco and is on the Board of Urban Ecology Australia and the South Australian Biosequestration Initiative. 

She is also a member of the Business SA Peak Load Energy Efficiency Committee (PEEC).

Penny has a Masters in Environmental Science from Monash University and experience in and passion for biodiversity conservation, water resource management and sustainable living. A life-long interest in the natural world stems from teen years spent bird watching and learning to identify plants. Hands-on experience has been matched with more strategic conservation activities through membership of:

  • The Adelaide and Mt Lofty Ranges Natural Resources Management Board (current)
  • The National Parks and Wildlife Council and its Wildlife Advisory Committee (DEH) 
  • The Urban Forest Biodiversity Program Steering Group (current)
  • The Torrens Catchment Water Management Board
  • The Mt Lofty Ranges INRM Group
  • The State Assessment Panel for the NHT


Work on the first national atlas of Australian birds in the late 1970s included a stint in Melbourne and delving into museum collections on both sides of the Atlantic. Penny now works in a variety of jobs including bird and plant survey and monitoring and helping agencies and community groups manage remnant native vegetation. Volunteer time is spent waging war on weeds at Bush For Life and other sites, as well as growing plants for revegetation projects. Knowledge of the recovery planning process for threatened species comes from chairing the MLR Southern Emu-wren Recovery Team and committee work to amend the threatened species schedules of the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1972.

Andrew Stock has had over 30 years of broad management experience in the energy sector both in Australia and overseas. 

He is currently Executive General Manager, Major Development Projects with Origin Energy Limited, and a Director of SEA Gas, Osborne Cogeneration and other Origin Energy joint ventures.

He has previously held senior commercial, operations and technical management roles across the energy and petrochemical industries.
Andrew is National President of the Australian Business Council for Sustainable Energy, and a member of the Advisory Committee to CSIRO's Energy and Transport Division and the South Australian Premier's Science and Research Council. 

He holds a Chemical Engineering degree (Honours) from the University of Adelaide and has completed graduate management programs at the University of Western Australia and the International Institute for Management Development in Switzerland. 

He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Australia.

Jeff Tate has been Chief Executive Officer of the City of Onkaparinga since it was created through the amalgamation of the Cities of Happy Valley and Noarlunga and part of the District Council of Willunga in July 1997. The City of Onkaparinga is the largest council in South Australia, with a population of over 158,000 and covering an area of 518 square kilometres.

Prior to this Jeff was CEO with the City of Marion and was Deputy Secretary General with the Local Government Association. He has worked for a number of Councils in both South Australia and Victoria.

He holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of South Australia and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Fellow of Local Government Managers Australia.

Jeff’s particular work interests include strategic planning, change management, sustainability and its application, making public policy practical, integration – within and between organisations and spheres of government, community self reliance and innovative solutions. He has been involved in several projects that have been recognised through national or state level innovation awards - including three National Awards for Innovation in Local Government with the City of Onkaparinga.

Jeff is a Board Member of Zero Waste SA, a statutory body with responsibility for reducing the amount of waste to landfill in South Australia and of the Fleurieu Peninsula Biennale, a national visual arts festival that brings together the arts, food and wine industries, tourism and businesses on the Fleurieu Peninsula, South Australia.

Niki is the Chief Executive Officer of the Leaders Institute of SA, which runs the Governor's Leadership Foundation Program and Network (GLF) - a program focused on the big issues for our future and designed to provide high-end leadership development for key people in organisations throughout South Australia. 

Niki graduated from the University of Adelaide with a University Medal and First Class Honours in Psychology and is enrolled in a PhD at the Adelaide Graduate School of Business. Her topic is leadership and sustainability. In 2005 she was a State Finalist in the Telstra Business Woman of the Year Award.

She's had a diverse career, including academic research roles in public health, both nationally and internationally, and senior executive roles in large national charities. She has many publications on a diversity of issues - including two books. 

In addition to her role as Chair of the Community Engagement & Communication subcommittee of the Premier's Round Table on Sustainability, Niki serves on the Higher Education Council for SA and on the International Sustainable Learning Cities Regional Advisory Group.

She is also on the national board of Community Leadership Australia and was President of FIDO - a very successful Sydney volunteering organisation from 1999-2005. Niki is also a volunteer with Australian Business Volunteers - and she provides training in business governance in developing countries in the Pacific region. 

Niki's knowledge of, and passion for, sustainability grew through her work with the Leaders Institute of SA and the Governor's Leadership Foundation and through shared interests with her husband, Simon Divecha an environmental consultant to business and government. 

Niki has strong links with a vast network of leaders of this State across business, government and the broader community. These networks are put to use in helping to make change happen. The Round Table also benefits from her experience in public health behaviour change interventions and her broad general knowledge of the key issues for this State, the people at the forefront of these issues and the initiatives that are having an impact on them.

For the past 25 years Matthew has worked across metropolitan and rural areas of South Australia and in England as a professional social worker in both the Government and non-government human service sectors. 

Currently Matthew manages the Multi Agency Community Housing Association, which provides housing and coordinated support services to over 300 low income and homeless adults in the inner city of Adelaide every night. 

He has worked in community development as a social worker, program manager and in policy development.

His work in recent years has focused on inner city adult homelessness, but he has also worked in youth affairs, as Youth Advisor to the Department of Community Welfare, in service development and delivery with suicidal adolescents, and in education and training, particularly with issues of long term unemployment. 

He received an Australia Day Citizen of the Year Award for work in the Port Pirie area.

Matthew has worked in a variety of community development, crisis accommodation and longer term housing programs for those on low incomes. 

He has written and presented on topics ranging from Intervention Strategies for Suicidal Adolescents to Designing for the Homeless.

His long standing interest and commitment to environmental issues has been expressed through involvement in community organizations and advocacy, as a founding member of the Australian Greens, SA and more recently, through an active involvement in the development of sustainable housing/built form. 

Matthew has a particular interest in the areas of social justice and social sustainability, as critical components of any successful drive for the development of sustainable communities.

Mike was formerly chief research scientist at the CSIRO and is currently Research Chair, Water Economics and Management School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, The University of Adelaide.

In 2003, Mike was awarded a centenary medal for outstanding service through environmental economics.

Mike is best known for his capacity to integrate biophysical and economic information to produce innovative proposals that catalyse change. 

He holds the position of Adjunct Professor with the University of New England and Charles Sturt University.
